Scott's Farewell and Departure

As I mentioned in the last post, Scott had his farewell on October 20th, 2013.  He was called to serve in the Family and Church Headquarters Mission, which is in Salt Lake City on Temple Square.  It is a mission specially designed for elders like Scott, who are either socially (like Scott) or physically unable to serve regular missions, but are independent enough to take care of themselves.  It is the only mission like that in the whole Church, so he was very lucky to receive a call there.  He spoke in our ward, the Fort Bridger ward at 11:00.  His talk was so heartfelt, I think it touched everyone there, and most especially those of us that were there to support him.  He is a wonderful young man and we were glad to have him live with us and support him in going on a mission.  We will miss his funny quotes and his happy spirit!

That afternoon, we had a little party for Willie, who turned 2 on the same day Evie turned 4. 

He is excited about that cake! Love that face!

 Then, on November 1st, we dropped Scott off in Salt Lake City.  Since this mission is so unique, the missionaries do not go to the MTC first, they just go straight to Temple Square.  We had about an hour long orientation in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, but first we dropped Scott and all his suitcases at his apartment. 

This is the church where Scott and all the elders in his mission attend their meetings. They also get to go to Music and the Spoken Word every Sunday! Color me jealous.
