It's a....

My ultrasound with the doctor--THE ultrasound, the one where we find out what we're having--was scheduled for Wednesday the 21st, so we'd been telling everyone that's when we would find out.  Well, Marla, Rob's sister, has us for Christmas this year and she had this cute idea that she wanted to surprise us with the news of what we are having.  At first, I wondered how that would work--I mean, I sort of have to be there for the ultrasound, right?  Well, Marla figured it all out.  She paid for us to have the 3D fetal imaging done and scheduled it and everything, so she told the lady that it was a surprise and that she couldn't tell us what we were having.  So instead of telling us the news, the technician put The Answer in an envelope for Marla, and we walked out of there having seen some cool pictures of our baby's face, and nothing else.

A few days later, Marla threw us a "Baby Reveal Party" at her house.  It was so cute, she had pink and blue balloons, pink and blue tablecloth, plates, and everything.  When we walked in, everyone had to choose a pink or a blue necklace to say which gender they thought the baby was.  Marla had baked a cake and put in food coloring corresponding to the gender of the baby--hence, if we were having a boy, the inside of the cake would be blue, and if it was a girl, pink.  Then she frosted the outside white.

The cake :)

Evie got a blue necklace and a pink necklace--covering all her bases.

Hallie wants a brother.

Drumroll please................IT'S A.............................

GIRL!!

This is definitely the most cute and creative way we have ever discovered the gender of our baby!

Thanks, Marla for such a fun party! It was fun to be surprised!

And so, Henderson baby girl #4 will make her debut at the end of April.  What can we say?  We're on a streak! We are thrilled to be having another sweet girl in our family!  When we cut open the cake, Hallie said in a tremulous voice, "But, why couldn't it be a boy?" She was a bit sad for a few minutes, but I told her she could help me pick out baby girl names and now she is happy about it.  Claire was clueless; about 10 minutes after the cake-cutting, she said, "Oh, it's a girl?"  And Evie just knows there's a baby in Mommy's tummy and that's about it.

So now on to the hard part--choosing a name! We have a hard time deciding on girl names, and we've already had to do it three times.  I'm sure we'll find the perfect one somehow.  :) We are very excited!

  1. That is a way cute way to find out! Congrats on what is sure to be another beautiful girl. I hear ya on the name thing. I almost wish we were having another girl since we at least had a list of names we would have been fine with for a girl. Boys however- we can't even find ONE name we even remotely like.
