Memorial Day Camping Trip

Since we now have a new (to us) trailer, we decided to give it a trial run by going camping over Memorial Day weekend.  The Sunday before our trip, we took a family drive up into the mountains before church (we have 1:00 church) to scout out a good camping spot:

We are excited to go camping!

Rob was worried about someone taking our camp spot, so that evening after church, he decided to drive Steph and Jeff's trailer up there and park it for the week.  We followed in the Suburban with Grandma Kelly and had a little campfire with hot dogs and marshmallows.  Luckily I had those things on hand, as it was Sunday and we couldn't have gone to the store to grab them!

  I have always thought that people who go camping over Memorial Day in Wyoming are crazy, because it always seems to snow or get really cold that weekend, even if we have had a nice May.  But we figured, if we have a trailer with a furnace, we should be okay.  And truly, although it was a bit of a chilly trip, it wasn't too bad.  Our furnace didn't end up working (much to Robert's dismay), but we all bundled up at night and we were just fine. 

We came up on Thursday evening with Rob's parents.  Friday, the Gerrards arrived and Saturday the Killpacks and Copelans arrived.  We weren't expecting the Copelans, they made a surprise trip down to camp with us.  It was a really nice time, and great to spend time with the Hendersons.

Friday night, I read everyone the book "Children of the King" by Max Lucado.  It is a very touching book, I highly recommend it if you haven't read it.  I read it for the first time to my preschoolers and started getting choked up during preschool!! A great lesson for us all. 

On Saturday, the Halls even drove out to spend a little time with us.  Our campsite was only about 20 minutes from our house.

The kids had a great time exploring near the campsite and collecting wood.  We all took rides on the four-wheeler and the side-by-side.  It was so much fun, especially with the kids getting excited about it.  We played frisbee, bolo toss, and when it was rainy, we played games and read books in the trailer.  

On Sunday, we drove back into town to go to church, then drove back out to the mountains to finish our campin' trip! These last pictures are from Sunday evening.

While we were there, all the aspens started blooming! This picture does not capture how pretty the contrast was between the spring green versus the evergreen. 

Then Monday morning we all packed up and went home! It was a great weekend, and almost all the Hendersons were there, so it was really nice to spend time with them for a few days.  I'm grateful for such good family!
